The Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to inaugurate the 106th Indian Science Congress (ISC) on the 3rd of January, 2019, a Thursday hosted at the Lovely Professional University (LPU), Jalandhar. At the annual congregation, the best minds of science in our country will be seen deliberating on various scientific topics based on the theme ‘Future India: Science and Technology’.

At the Congress, the Prime Minister will be addressing about 30,000 delegates from all over India and abroad. The delegates include various noble laureates, Indian cabinet ministers, young male and female researchers, students of science, various policymakers, and school children. In a message delivered by the Science and Technology Minister Harsh Vardhan, who will be attending the congregation along with Textile Minister Smriti Irani, said, “The government’s aim is to deliver the benefits of science and technology to the last man in the society. Scientists being a pivot should put their heart and soul into finding new solutions to the problems facing the nation and improve the quality of life of common man.” Among the noble laureates, biochemist Thomas Rudolph, a Nobel Prize winner in Physiology or Medicine for his excellent work on vesicle trafficking, in the year 2013, Avram Hershko, who was awarded with a Nobel Prize in Chemistry, as well as Frederick Duncan Michael Haldane, a 2016 Nobel Prize winner in Physics are supposed to participate in the event.

During the 5 days long congregation, around over 100 scientific and technological events, as well as, conferences are scheduled. Among the participants of those events, senior officials from DRDO, ISRO, AIIMS, UGC, AICTE, and many elite universities from the US, UK, India and abroad are supposed to be found a present.

The Children’s Congress is scheduled to be inaugurated on the 4th of January, 2019 which is the second day of the Indian Science Congress. The target audience of the Children’s Science Congress will be children within the age group of 10 to 17 years. The Department of Science and Technology has finalized about 150 science projects to be showcased during the event, with the golden opportunity of interacting with the Nobel laureates.

The two-day Science Communicator’s Meet 2019 is scheduled to be inaugurated on the 5th of January, 2019 which is the third day of the Indian Science Congress 2019. The main purpose of this event is to brainstorm and deliberate ways in which scientific information and scientific attitude can be spread among the common masses.

The Women’s Science Congress is also scheduled to be inaugurated on the third day of the Indian Science Congress, on the 5th of January, 2019. In this event, famous women scientists and leaders from Government, academia, and industry, as well as, female decision makers will be participating. The main aim of this event is to showcase the immense contribution of women on scientific, technological as well as on societal fronts.

Another extremely important event of the Indian Science Congress 2019 is the ‘Pride of India’ Expo that will be taking place separately under six gigantic stalls, with exhibitors like CSIR, ISRO, DAE, ICMR, DST, DRDO, ICAR, etc. exhibiting science projects to popularize science and scientific approaches among the youth.

The 106th Indian Science Congress is supposed to play a pivotal role in popularizing scientific approach and temperament within India and the world at large.
